National Informatics Centre (NIC) is a
premiere S&T; institution of the Government of India, established in
1976, for providing e-Government/e-Governance Solutions adopting
best practices, integrated services and global solutions in
Government Sector.
In 1975, the Government of India strategically decided to take
effective steps for the development of information systems and
utilization of information resources and also for introducing
computer based decision support system (informatics-led development)
in government ministries and departments to facilitate planning and
programme implementation to further the growth of economic and
social development. Following this, the Central Government nucleated
a high priority plan project "National Informatics Centre (NIC)" in
1976, and later on with the financial assistance of the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to the tune of US$4.4 million.
NIC
has played an important role of an active catalyst and facilitator
in informatics development programme in Governments at the
national, state and district levels, during the last 26 years which
made them take policy decisions to create knowledge societies -
societies that can exploit knowledge to derive competitive advantage
using the opportunities provided by digital technology. NIC has been
instrumental in adopting Information Technology and Communication
Technology to reach out into India i.e. by implementing IT
applications in Social and Public Administrations.

Madhya
Pradesh State Centre (MPSC), of NIC, Madhya Pradesh –
“The Cyber Gateway of the State” was setup at Bhopal, in
the year 1988, to play a catalytic role in promoting
informatics culture and providing ICT services to
government departments/organization, besides architecting
& implementing various e-Governance initiatives with the
best possible technology support for achieving targeted
goal of delivering efficient citizen services to the
common public in the State.To succeed in this endeavor, |

NIC
implemented State-wide network of District Centers and
sub-offices.Currently, NIC District Centers are
operational at all the 50 Districts.
NIC has also created special Centers at various
important locations, i.e., State Secretariat (Mantralaya),
State Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha), High Court &
it’s two Benches, Commissioner Land Records and Passport Office.

NIC being a large State, policy formulation
& implementation, initiation & implementation of various
developmental schemes & programmes, coordination & monitoring up to
lowest level of administration involves challenges in governance &
delivery of services to the general public.
Availability of the right data is the key for good decision making
for effective management. ICT (Information & Communication
Technologies) initiatives of the state have thrown up several new
possibilities for meeting out these challenges and for making the
governance more effective & efficient. In order to achieve
automation of Government processes & functions, appropriate backbone
ICT infrastructure has been established in the State, which
includes, 100Mbps to 2.5Gbps redundant Internet Backbone, 2Mbps to
34Mbps Leased Line
connectivity with Districts, High Definition Multipoint Video Conferencing facility in all the
Districts, OFC-based connectivity between Mantralaya, Vidhan Sabha,
Satpura & Vindhyachal Bhawan, Gigabit-based Local Area Network (LAN)
at Mantralaya, Geomatics Infrastructure, etc. supported by a team of
highly qualified IT professionals.

NIC Madhya Pradesh is fulfilling the
commitment in multi-dimensional ways to achieve the user
satisfaction with the help of latest state-of-the-art ICT
infrastructure. NIC, Madhya Pradesh has been extending
citizen-friendly, transparent, efficient and reliable ICT-Services.
During the last few years the e-Governance efforts of NIC Madhya
Pradesh along with State Government have been recognized with
prestigious awards for ICT-Services at State and District level.
