National Knowledge Network–POP in Madhya Pradesh

NKN-MP

The NKN (National Knowledge Network) – POP in Madhya Pradesh has been inaugurated by Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Information Technology, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya on 21st March 2012 in presence of senior Government functionaries.
The NKN is a state-of-the-art multi-gigabit pan-INDIA network for providing a unified high speed network backbone for all knowledge related institutions in the country. The purpose of such a knowledge network goes to the very core of the country's quest for building quality institutions with requisite research facilities and creating a pool of highly trained professionals.

The NKN will enable scientists, researchers & students from different backgrounds & diverse geographies to work closely for advancing human development in critical & emerging areas.


Primary objective of the NKN – POP in Madhya Pradesh is to provide high speed multi-gigabit internet connectivity to the premier institutions of the State & Central Government in the State. Initially, the connectivity has been extended to about 35 major institutions, covering Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, Baraktulla University, Bhopal, RGPV Bhopal, Makhanlal Patrakarita Vishwavidyala, Bhopal, Bhoj Open University Bhopal, DAVV Indore, APS University, Rewa, Jiwajee University, Gwalior, Vikram University, Ujjain, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidhyalaya, Chitrakoot University, Krishi Vishwavidhyala Jabalpur & Gwalior, etc., besides IIT, Indore, IIM, Indore, MANIT, Bhopal, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, IISER, etc. Virtual Classroom facility at IIT, Indore & GMC Bhopal has been established under NKN project, whereas it is under progress at MANIT, Bhopal and IISER. The cost of equipment and establishing the network (with connectivity) is being provided from NKN project.
