There are 50 Districts, 313 Development Blocks, 22,000 Panchayats and 55,000 Villages in Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, Mantralaya (Secretariat) , located at Bhopal, the State Capital, is one of the most important buildings where all the significant decisions regarding the state of Madhya Pradesh is taken and implemented. It is one of the important political and administrative center of the state. The Secretariat building houses almost all the important offices and departments of the state Government which includes Office of the Chief Minister, the Office of the Chief Secretary and the offices of the Secretaries of all the 52 Departments. Departments are vital executive arms of the Government which play a vital role in deciding the fate of the state of Madhya Pradesh. They continue to be the backbone of administration and contribute a lot for an orderly social development and growth.
Policy formulation & its implementation, Speedy Disposal of Issues , Initiation and effective Implementation of various developmental Schemes & Programmes & their Constant Monitoring , Inter Departmental Co-ordination, Co-ordination within Departmental Units and field level offices like Districts are the challenging tasks in Governance in such a large state. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have thrown up several new possibilities to meet out these challenges and make the Governance more effective. Thus the goal is to achieve maximum automation through computerization of each and every process within all Departments at Mantralaya, so as to avail real throughput using IT in governance and usher in an era of paperless governance.
National Informatics Centre, Madhya Pradesh State Centre has established its sub center at Mantralaya (Secretariat) to fulfill the computerization needs of the Mantralaya in the year 1990. Presently, A Local Area Network (LAN) of 3500 nodes is in place at Mantralaya. Internet, E-mail and Video Conferencing facility is available to facilitate interaction with the Revenue Districts/Divisions. Development of number of applications are taken up to meet the functional needs of the Departments.
